Continuing on with our week of prayer...
Last night we went to the Young Adults program at our church at 7 pm. It was combined with the two morning services population to share about 'Prayer'. What a great night! I am sure some of the 'usual' attendees of the YA did not attend simply because there were going to be 'older' people there but I think those that did attend, appreciated all that happened. All in all, about 700+ were there to share this experience.
Without all the detail, one of the best parts of the evening (I thought) was when Pastor Phil talked about the fact that the evening was "multi-generational" and that we can learn and support each other. He shared what he would like us to do and just let us do it. He pointed out there were little sheets of paper in the pew in front of us and asked us if we would write down a problem or concern we might be dealing with right now that would be helpful if prayer were added to it. Then he wanted us to bring it to the front and lay it down on the alter and he hoped that if it were a YA that left it there, that a 'mature older adult' would come to pick it up and agree to pray for that concern. It started with exactly that.
After a short moment of silence and no movement anywhere...a young adult took his request to the front, placed it on the steps and returned to his seat. Another moment of silence...5 seconds...10 seconds...and then...a mature adult went to the front and picked it up. A trickle started. Another YA, and someone went to pick it up, then there was an older person who lay down a paper and a YA came to pick it up. It kept going like that and getting busier and busier. The aisles became full of people - coming and going - like ants - some marching down the aisle to the front while others were returning back to their seats with a paper in hand. It was truly amazing. There were goosebumps on my goosebumps!
You cannot believe the feeling - the excitment in the air - it truly was amazing. A body of believers who were really feeling and caring about each other.
If you want to hear more about the Concert of prayer and what Pastor Gary had to share in the morning, check out the website, audio message for Jan.23 either Change Point 1 (which I attend) or Change Point 2. Both were amazing!
