Christmas in October

I just found out that we will be going to an 'early' Christmas party - October 22nd. Why, that's even BEFORE Halloween. Not that I celebrate Halloween too much (other than handing out candy) but it does 'e a s e' me into Fall and eventually colder weather, including snow.  I don't think I can get into the Christmas spirit without a little snow.  Guess I will have to start playing Christmas music to help me out a bit.  "Oh little town of Bethlehem", "Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way"..."Joy to the World the Lord has come.".."It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas"....(hopefully not too soon), "You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen"...."Chestnuts roasting on an open fire", ok... you get the picture.

Also, I now have to buy two gifts that we can bring for the gift exchange. I forget what you call the game but everyone brings one gift and you pick numbers and then you can trade for a gift that has been opened or open a new gift. The best number is the last pick. You get your choice of all of them. We have come home with some pretty nice gifts - usually for the grandkids.

Ok, back to my Christmas spirit..."On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me...."

Every Christmas Eve we play that game also. Last year we told every one they couldn't buy the gift but had to find something in their house they wanted to get rid of. That caused a lot of laughter. This year, Kristen and I were wondering if we should turn it into an auction by giving everyone Monopoly money to "purchase" the gift. Later they could steal from each other.
I wonder if we have gotten carried away with the idea that December is too full so let's not burden everyone with parties that month. October does seem a little early to me - even mid November would be better. At least you could justify putting up a tree by then. However, isn't there a song about Christmas being every day - so maybe my thinking is wrong!!
