I was 12 in 1962 when Seattle held the World's Fair. I remember going on the space needle and seeing the world below me. It was pretty amazing. I'm thinking we went on the monorail but I don't have any images in my mind about it so maybe I just saw it but never travelled ON it. Strange, most of those memories from my youth are not brought to mind often. You need people to talk about different things and that usually stimulates your memories. There isn't anyone around now from my years of 8-16 that I could dredge up stories except for my brothers who also are not around. When we do get together we usually talk about what's current and not about our past antics as kids.
The reason all this space needle jargon came up was because I was watching a movie tonite called Love Happens with Jennifer Aniston. The setting was in Seattle. The space needle was prominent in many of the photos. I also recall the downtown Farmers Market from 2002 when I took some training in Seattle for Stephen Ministry with a friend of mine. We had taken the afternoon off and gone shopping and had wandered down the cobblestone road to the market and to the many shops along the shore. I vaguely remember the shops but I do remember eating in the open air market. It was in August so the weather was beautiful.
I know I have a picture somewhere of my brother and me taken at a monument in the Rogers Pass on our trip to Seattle. It is not on digital and I have yet to scan it so the only other photo I have is one of when I was 11 - the year before the Seattle Worlds Fair. I guess I didn't change that much in one year so I've included it. I'm in the rust colored sweater. My two brothers are right behind me.
The lady in the red sweater is my cousin but because of our age difference, I always thought she was my aunt. The two other girls are her daughters which makes them my second-cousins but I always thought they were my cousins . The little one in the blue passed away when she was 40+ from cancer. Who knew eh? Maybe it is a good thing we don't know what our future has in store for us. Some of us would simply quit, while others would want to accomplish so much more in the little time available to them. Which one would you be?
Ah memories,

Couldn't Resist
Change of Weather
I hate to say it but ... the furnace came on this morning. I thought it was a car engine running outside my window but no... it was the furnace. I guess it was a 'new' sound and my 'inner self' questioned it! I woke up and looked out the window and then felt the heat coming from the floor. It was the air vent and yikes, heat was coming out of it. Actually, I woke up coughing, then heard the air billowing out of the vent! I guess it was because it was only 6 C!!! I have now checked the weather on the computer and it looks like we only reach a high of 12 C today!!! Wow, where did the heat go? Yesterday, it was windy and warm and this morning....well, things have changed. Thankfully, it is still clear and no rain clouds anywhere.
5:30 a.m. is no time for me to get up - I am not my husband who wakes up early and reads the news on the computer. I like to sleep till 6:45 but not this morning. I guess I will be able to 'greet' the sun today! Here's a pic of sunrise from three days ago...I was up early that morning too and couldn't resist taking a picture. The orange light was streaming through the living room window. As they say 'pretty as a picture'!!

Where did summer go?
It is hard to believe that we are mid-way in September already. Where did August go? It's not that I am overly busy. It's just that the days are seeming to slip past faster! The weather has been beautiful. I guess that is why it seems like we are still in August with the temps being in the mid 20's. Slowly the trees are turning colour, almost without noticing. However, yesterday, it was windy and warm all day and I noticed the many leaves on the ground ...yikes...they were orange and yellow ...not green! Guess I should pay more attention to what's going on around me.
My hubby is at the farm and enjoying himself. I wish I was there as well as this time of the year is so beautiful. There's a busyness to life on the farm during harvest. Winter will come and the blanket of white will cover everything and things will be serene. But right now... it is a beehive of activity. The clearing out of the garden, the cleaning and canning, the silaging and combining. There is so much happening.
There is lots of activity here as well. We are getting a new step on our deck and the guy is coming tonite to confirm what to do. We took out the flower boxes on either side of it and removed all the dirt to other locations. Now it looks pretty ugly. We are thinking of putting a full, wide step there instead. Maybe just place flower pots ON the step instead of having flower boxes. We'll see.
I have a sign on our front lawn. "Question Everything" which is the motto of the Alpha program we are doing at our church (and all over Alberta) this fall. There are billboards, advertisements and signs posted over all of Alberta. Hundreds of churches are participating. Any questions about God, who He is, what's it all about, why Christianity? You name it, and we will talk about it this Fall. Check it out at a church near you or go to QuestionEverythingAB.com. They are even doing them at coffee shops, at the office and in homes. Should be an interesting Fall.

Round Trip
We made a l-o-n-g but beautiful day-trip to Herbert, SK yesterday. We were up at 4 am and returned home by 11:30 PM! It was quite the day. We were headed to a funeral and did one giant loop to Saskatchewan and back via southern Alberta. Got to enjoy the same day morning sunrise and sunset!! The daytime temperature reached a scorching 35 C - no clouds, only a canopy of blue sky - absolutely beautiful!
I miss the open spaces of S A S K A T C H E W A N !!!
