Thunder, Lightening and Rain

They said we might be having thundershowers overnight but I didn't think too much about it. We could use the rain. However, NOT THE HAIL!!! My poor flowers. As I was saying to a friend this morning, "My flowers were really looking good - I had actually been 'deadheading' them and it was amazing how well they were doing ... until now!"

Before

After
While I was listening in awe to the thunder and lightening show and then watching the hail, I did think about my flowers but wasn't really anticipating them to be pummelled like they were. Dahhhh!

3 a.m. hail on lower deck; rain overflowing eavestroughs

No hail left at 7 am

My poor flower pots were out in the open. Hopefully they will revive over the next few days. They will need lots of love and care.

He WAS doing so well too!

Poor baby!

Hot Hot Hot

The weather this week has been very hot. I think it is a record having the low 30's the past few days and 34C yesterday (44 with the humidex). I am so glad that we did the sanding and staining of our deck 'before' the heat wave. I guess you could say we were doing it 'on the cusp' as it was warm but not hot. Friday night we sanded and were able to return the equipment in time to avoid paying the full 24 hour rental! Saturday morning, we stained (as the heat began). Thankfully, it dried fast with the sunshine but I only got a second coat on the lower deck and I think that will have to do for this year!

Sanded and ready for staining
The lower deck gets all the direct sun and so was easier to remove the old stain as it almost removed itself! The upper deck is covered so was more difficult. In fact, we didn't get all of it removed down to the cedar itself but it does look a lot better. I guess that would be a full 24 hour sanding job so it will just have to wait for another year!

Stained and looking a lot cleaner!

With all this heat, the flowers and vegetation are enjoying a lot of growth. Our cedars love it. We have been faithful in watering too so they are getting the best of both worlds!

A nice view from the deck.

Don't know the name of these but they are purple!!
Well, back to the work that goes on 'inside' the house now - especially since it is so hot 'outside'.

July 1st Fireworks

We did not go to the fireworks in the park last night but watched it from our front door. The trees in our cul de sac are getting bigger so it is getting more difficult! However, the sky was clear (after raining most of the day) and what I did see, was enough for me. I could hear the crowds from here and it did sound like there were LOTS of people at the park!

My camera wasn't able to take very clear pics but you get the picture (literally)!
