A Harvest Song

I just couldn't resist this.  As Isla and I were walking yesterday, kicking through all the fallen leaves, we both started singing (for whatever reason) the same song and both of us did not know more of the words than the refrain (which we belted out for all nature to hear)!! No shame here!  It's an oldie but a goodie!  I also couldn't resist putting it in here as I got a call from my hubby last night and he was just waiting for the truck to load up the grain so he had a minute to call me. He sounded like an excited child as he spoke about the harvest and the great weather they were now experiencing.  Bringing in the sheaves, was definitely what they were doing.  This song doesn't seem to lose it's sentiment even in 2010! Thanks goodness for Google so I could find out the lyrics!

Bringing in the Sheaves
By: Knowles Shaw, 1874
Based on Psalm 126:6

Refrain:
Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves;
Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness,
Sowing in the noontide and the dewy eve;
Waiting for the harvest, and the time of reaping,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Sowing in the sunshine, sowing in the shadows,
Fearing neither clouds nor winter’s chilling breeze;
By and by the harvest, and the labor ended,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Going forth with weeping, sowing for the Master,
Though the loss sustained our spirit often grieves;
When our weeping’s over, He will bid us welcome,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Based on Psalm 126:6
(5) Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy.
(6)He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him.

Pretty interesting, eh? I think I added the link but I have not done it before so if it is not working, try: http://youtube.com/watch?v=u67Lb1RyXTU
 Brining in the Sheaves, Tennessee Ernie Ford - or whoever you might like to hear sing it!

Well, I just finished listening to Tennessee Ernie Ford. Thanks for the lyrics - I mainly knew only the chorus too but the verses are really good aren't they? It also brought back memories of my Mom watching the Tennesse Ernie Ford Show and I wasn't always very excited about that! I just tried singing with him and he sure has a deep voice and I am alto!
