Halloween Trick or Treat

Well, the weather was great for tonite but it was a disappointment as to the number of kids we had come knocking. That being said, most were little ones and before 7 pm.  In total, we only had 39 kids. A far cry from the 80 of last year.  "Where is everyone?" However, all is not lost, as I did take a few pics. When a larger crowd came, I forgot about the camera and just handed out the candy.

9 year old boys - go figure!

Beautiful young girls!

The two sons of our new neighbor in the back!

Bud Lightyear (left) said I was 'cool' and thanked me for taking their picture!

Their mother was in a mask as well!

The most polite children I have ever met!

Grandson of friends in the cul de sac
Our neighbor girl on the corner! Always smiling!

The last to arrive - older but still polite and having fun!
John was at the church tonite for a special the Kids' Ministry was putting on for Halloween called Unmasked Heroes. John was playing Moses. He said the church was filled with trick or treaters and there were plays in the gym and games and food and popcorn everywhere. Last Wed at the ladies morning out, all 80+ of us ladies filled five bags each of an assortment of chocolate bars, suckers, gum & other candy for tonite's event. John said it was a hit! Maybe that's where all the kids were tonite!

Hard to believe tomorrow is November 1st!

It's Only a Window

Ok, I know it has been a few days since I have been on my blogsite.Funny how your interests change eh? Guess I have been busy so not as much time left in the day to 'ponder' my life!

My current interest is trying to figure out what I want to do with my window covering for the kitchen window. I love it being so open and bright and love the wide white vinyl casing with decorative corners. Who would want to cover that up? Except, at night now when it is black outside and bright lights inside you can see all that is going on. Not that a lot goes on, but you get my drift!

Don't want to put holes in my trim - what to do??
Anyway, I am having a 'friend of a friend' (who is also my friend) come over to give me some ideas. Although she had to cancel today as car problems kept her away, I did find out over the phone some more things about her. I guess she is more than just a 'friend of a friend' coming to look at my window. She is a 'professional' window designer and a few other things but thankfully she will still come and is aware 'upfront' that expensive window dressings are not my thing - in fact - dresses are not my thing either!! In other words, she will try to keep it simple for me.  Don't get me wrong, I would love to have expensive, wonderful looking window treatments but that is not where I (we) want to spend our money. Did I tell you we were going to Las Vegas? THAT is where we will spend our money (even if we don't want to)!!

So, she gave me a 'ball park' figure and I said 'Come on down'!! I will have her look at the bedroom windows as well. Why not? she's here! I can 'live' with what I have now BUT if I can get something more 'professional looking' for a little bit of extra money, why not?  We'll see how that story ends.

To be continued....

Visitors

There was frost on the pumpkin last night! This morning the roof tops are white and it is a sign of the 'white' that will soon be coming. It isn't even Oct 31 yet! They say it will be a long, cold, winter with lots of snow. I am not sure where 'they' get all their information! Don't really mind the snow, especially since City Council have agreed to plow to the pavement this year and keep the side streets clean. That will likely increase our taxes again - but we will be happy - at least during the snow months!! Current temperature is 1 C.

We had John's brother, Fred and his wife, Faith, from Ottawa, here overnight. They were up to visit his mom and we were fortunate to have a quick visit with them also. Since they were so already so close, their daughter  encouraged them to go Vancouver and visit so their plans changed. It was a last minute decision but those are usually the most adventurous and fun! They return to Ottawa on Sunday.

This time of the year really brings on the beauty of sunrises and sunsets. I have not been running around with my car capturing them but here is one out my front window of a beautiful sunrise two Sundays ago.

Unusual yellow brightness before sun popped out

Beautiful pink and purple sky
They say a picture is worth a thousand words so I guess I have used up my portion for this morning!

Happy Birthday, John

Today is Johnny's birthday! What to do, what to do? Well, he worked today so that negated anything happening during the day so we are now discussing options for dinner. We have decided on Montana's for the ribs! delicious! I surprised him this morning with his birthday gift. It was a 21.5 Monitor for his computer. I got tired of looking at the small screen (not that it's my computer). The computer at work is a large screen and my t.v. is 42" so it was time...!

I set it up for him while he was out for coffee. So far, so good. He said he is enjoying it. All the congratulatory messages (via facebook) have arrived in BIG, BOLD print!!

26 years ago, we celebrated a special birthday with a surprise flight to Las Vegas. I had to check with his boss to make sure it was ok first and then we wisked him and our friend Beth and her husband Rob off to supper and surprised them (John & Beth) with this trip (which we then had to leave quickly for the airport, right after supper!).

It was definitely a surprise. I had to pack his clothes ahead of time. It was an eventful evening as we rushed out to the airport after we had supper together, only to find that the flite was delayed twice due to mechanical difficulties and in the end, they could not depart till the morning.  They set us up in a hotel room overnite and provided little 'toiletries' for us to use as our suitcases had already been checked through security for the USA! But, 7:30 am the next morning, we were off to Viva Las Vegas!

We were only gone 3 days but it was a good time and the weather was great too.  Unfortunately, we aren't doing that this time but it's still a good memory!

Hopefully, I can post a picture of the birthday boy, later, after our supper together!

Happy Thanksgiving

The weather has been beautiful this past weekend and continues to be nice. Blue sky and sunshine - no rain, no overcast, no cold! It has been great!  Thank you, Lord!

We were at our neighbors for Thanksgiving dinner and they had their grandchildren there. They are so adorable. Made us miss ours even more. Two boys and a girl, 4,2,5 mos. Perfect. And they were too!

Zak (4) and Aiden (2)

John & Aleeza (5 mos)

Tonite we do our own Thanksgiving meal with some friends at our place. Turkey goes in at noon and we hope to be enjoying MORE turkey by 5:30 pm. Talk about stuffed....

We miss not being with our own daughter and grandkids this weekend but it just didn't work out this year. Thankfully, we will be seeing them early December for a long visit over Christmas. Of course, then the weather will be different but hopefully we will have enough snow by then and maybe a nice Chinook breeze will make it sunny and perfect for snowballs, snowmen and tobagganing! Wow, who can think of that when the weather is so nice today!!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

1 Thessalonians 5:16   Be joyful always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Previous years

It's been a cold, dreary fall day with a sprinkling of rain off and on. A high of 9? yuk! Thankfully, I have been indoors all day and have not really noticed, except turning up the heat a bit!

My little ladies group in the morning which started out as maybe 3-5 girls and possibly 8, has blossomed into 18. You would think that would translate into a lot of talking but ... no... more encouragement and direct questioning has taken place. Oh, everyone is willing to share if you ask them directly. Strange eh? the smaller group seemed more willing to open up quicker! Well, another week together should get us 'geled' nicely and it will be back to 'let's move on to the next question' scenario!

Speaking of October and fall, here's a few cute pics.

John's Home

Well, John arrived home safe and sound this afternoon after being away for 3 weeks at the farm. Everything done except the canola - still not ripening. Maybe next week. He has a few things he has to do here so he'll be around for awhile and will go back, if they need him.

I was over helping with setup for tomorrow's Connecting Points at the church. Over 44 groups already so hopefully those that are interested in participating will find a place to connect & meet new people.

It was only 11 today as a high and it has now started to drizzle. Supposed to be a bit warmer tomorrow so here's hoping.  The kind of day you want to stay in, relax, put your feet up and watch a good movie or read a good book.
